ALL THE GOOD GIRLS GO TO HELL

In this mock performance, “Billie Eilish” amplifies our infatuation with plastic and how we cannot escape the damage it causes us and our environment. It is also a commentary on the often overlooked ramifications of climate change - in particular, the direct effects it has on our physical and mental health. Medical experts consider the warming climate the “biggest global health threat of the 21st century” with humans essentially “sleepwalking through this health emergency.”

This creative project is part of the GHMAs. Jamila’s treatment was selected from a group of submissions to be produced in 4-6 days with mentorship from industry legends Galen Hooks and Amanda Balen. Learn more about the GHMAs below.

In the Summer of 2020, Jamila was selected to be a Creative Director for the GHMAs - a mock VMA awards performance under the mentorship of industry legends Galen Hooks and Amanda Balen. She spent a little under a week - from the page to the stage - developing and producing a concept in the style of Billie Eilish.

The GHMAs are a mock version of MTV’s VMAs put on by alumni of THE GALEN HOOKS METHOD (GHM)! This brand new project was conceived in the spirit of mentoring aspiring Creative Directors and providing a fulfilling project for alumni to take part in while the industry gets back on its feet.

GHM Alumni chose from a list of songs that are nominated for the 2020 VMAs and submitted creative treatments for those performances as if they are Creative Directors. They had to tailor their concepts specifically for the music artists, make sure the visuals fit within the artists’ brands, and stay within the outdoor theme of the real-life VMAs with social distancing in mind. 8 finalists pitched their treatments via IG Live and the public voted on the top 3 they wanted to see be brought to life!

The 3 treatments that were chosen were from the following Creatives: Jamila Glass (Los Angeles), Lucie Camelo (London) and Romonica Stephens (Los Angeles). The Creatives then enlisted GHM Alumni to be cast and crew and had 4-6 days to execute their visions with mentorship from Galen Hooks and Amanda Balen! As Executive Producers, Amanda and Galen gave daily copious notes that the creatives had to implement into their visuals and production schedules all while producing the performances. We are so proud to have had our first 3 winners be women of color. Congratulations Jamila, Lucie and Romonica!
